Reasons A Gastric Bypass Surgery Save Your Life And Make It Better

By Karen Stewart

The epidemic that is morbid obesity is bound to have many ways of curing. While some may say that this is a condition that can be prevented with discipline, many factors come into play that cause obesity. Genetic make up can contribute to this and that cannot be controlled. Sometimes immediate solutions are necessary, such as surgical intervention.

There are many types of bariatric surgery. Most states have 25 to 29 percent of obese adults and New York is one of them. This is at a national average per state. This make Gastric Bypass Surgery such a sought after procedure.

A GBP operation is essentially dividing the stomach into two parts, the small pouch and the large pouch. The intestine is then set to connect to the larger stomach pouch. This is how the volume of the stomach is reduced altering its ability to process food at lower volumes. This results to a drastic change in how the body responses to food.

The more obvious change is how the procedure takes away a huge amount of body fat. Other benefits include relief from obesity related diseases that the patient may have like type 2 diabetes, hypertension and sleep apnea. The likelihood of eradicating these other related illnesses can go up to 70 percent.

All types of surgeries have a risk factor, but with GBP, the benefits outweigh them with a mortality rate of 89 percent. Most patients can go as far as living beyond 5 years even after the operation. While an open surgery can cause fatal complications, minimal invasive procedures like laparoscopy is available to encourage faster recovery.

The mortality rate for this operation can be compared to the 3 out of a thousand rate of deaths that can happen with gall bladder removal. With a so many benefits, there has to be a catch. The sudden change can cause side effects such as nutrient deficiency and an adjustment period to the emotional withdrawal from the relationship the patient has with food.

Complications for these procedures can go to 14 percent at most and for open surgery methods. These numbers are pretty optimistic considering the number of things that it can cure. Eating habits also change in favor of the patient since they will lose the need to eat more than necessary.

Surgeons give diet specifications after an operation as alternating as a GBP. Post gastric bypass patients are not able intake the same amount and the same kinds of food. But typically they would not want to because of the how the operation side effects causes nausea to certain types of food. Supplements are required for iron, calcium and protein and other necessary nutrients. Another possible side effect are ulcers due to the increase of acid producing cells. This is usually dealt by acid reducing medication.

Major operations like the GBP is a life changing procedure. On the bright side, it definitely cures morbid obesity and gives the person another chance to live an active lifestyle allowing them to participate in daily activities better. Their dependence on food will also be cut down to a healthier amount.

How A Rockville MD Dental Office Helps Create Beautiful Smiles

By Clayton Maske

A beautiful smile can make all the difference in a person's life. A Rockville MD dental office can assist people who want to change the look of their teeth and become more confident about their appearance. Children who are not lucky enough to inherit straight, white teeth can have a much harder time being accepted by their peers and may even have difficulties in school because they lack self confidence.

Traditionally, straightening teeth involved braces glued to the teeth, often to the front of the teeth, making them very visible. They have to be worn for one to three years. During that time, there is a long list of foods that have to be avoided, including most kinds of candy, gum, corn chips and hard taco shells, popcorn and pretzels. Not to mention having to break up other food such as burgers or even some kinds of pizza (some dentists even recommend giving up pizza altogether). The glued on brackets make it much harder to keep teeth clean and almost impossible to floss.

If the child ate forbidden food anyway, it often got stuck to the brackets and was difficult and frustrating to remove. In addition, braces, like uneven teeth, could be a source of teasing and bullying by other school children.

Bulky, ugly wire brackets aren't the only option parents and their children have with today's technology. It is possible to have dentists apply aligners that are easy to get off and barely noticeable. Because they are removable, the patient has fewer restrictions about what foods they can eat.

There are still some things most orthodontists recommend patients avoid. Tea and coffee can leave stains for instance. You shouldn't use toothpaste on the aligners. Washing them in mild soapy water is a better option. All things considered, the time spent correcting dental problems seems to pass faster with the modern aligners.

You and your children don't have to accept the misfortune of crooked, discolored, or unevenly spaced teeth. You also don't have to spend years with bulky, unsightly braces. Today a wonderful, white smile can be created discreetly and comfortably with the help of modern technology.
