A Brief Overview Hot Yoga Teacher Training DC

By Barbara Walker

Meditation and exercise are common practices which can help restore health and balance body, mind and spirit. In fact, Eastern, Western and Holistic practitioners agree that individuals whom exercise and meditate on a regular basis often lead less-stressful lives. As such, there is now a need for individuals to attend hot yoga teacher training DC For, yoga has become even more popular, introducing new styles such as hot and goat yoga over the last few years.

If interested in leading classes or joining the Original Hot Yoga Association or OHYA, approval is required before starting a program aimed at future teachers. For, the organization has a strong commitment to promote the ongoing practice of hot yoga. As such, those training others how to lead these classes must have a clear understanding of the different forms of the practice.

The primary goal of the organization is to train new teachers which can easily integrate and excel at current and future OHYA studios in different areas. In order to achieve this goal, those seeking to lead classes must meet OHYA standards which include different categories of study and minimum hours as defined by the OHYA. Whereas, graduating students are expected to complete an internship at a studio in the area of residency and join the OHYA as a method of uniting the hot yoga community.

Students often find positions at different OHYA once having graduated from a teacher oriented program. In order to acquire such a position, it is important to have a level 1 seal in the directory, completed an internship and have completed a training program. It should be noted that all classes, programs, sessions and studios have a zero tolerance for improper behavior, including sexual harassment. As such, if a student or teacher feels there has been an infraction of this nature, it is important to send an email report to the OHYA and notify the local police or other authorities.

Individuals whom have completed classes though are not sure the sessions qualify one to lead in the classroom or be included in the Teacher Directory, can verify whether or not one is qualified, or needs to complete an additional bridge training course by contacting the OHYA by email. For, while some programs may be acceptable to the OHYA, there are others which may not have covered all the aspects necessary for teaching others.

Teachers whom are looking for approval must meet the organizational standards as laid out by OHYA and file an application. Some of these standards include personal practice, delivering instructions in a strong clear manner, providing instructions which relate to the trainee, merging personality traits with training methods and mindfully connecting with students on an individual and group level.

Making students feel safe, stable, welcome and comfortable, providing evaluations on the ability of students to receive constructive criticism, leading from the front of the class using a desk or podium, encouraging newcomers, connecting with students before, during and after class, controlling the air flow, heat and oxygen in the classroom on an ongoing basis and teaching students to empower and heal oneself and others are also essential when leading an OHYA program.

Whether attending a OHYA training session for teachers, or teaching classes, both can be rewarding. It is important to note that those training teachers often spend more time in the classroom than traditional yoga teachers. As such, attending courses focused on teaching others how to teach can often require individuals with a flexible schedule.
