Choosing Homemade Or Manufactured Self Tanning Lotions

By Veronica Cappelletti

If you want to get yourself a nice golden suntan without having to lie in the sun and risks the dangers that come with it. You can try one of the many self tanning lotions available from the chemist or supermarket. It is not always easy to pick the right product for you first time.

Friends and colleagues will go on about which products work for them, but it may not work on you. An inexpensive way to find out is to ask them if you can try a test patch with their product. Most products information sheets will tell you to carry out a skin patch test, to ensure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.

It is best to allow the patch test 24 hours to work. If you think the test patch color is not quite right, it is advisable not to purchase that product. Using it all over just makes the end results look worse and it may look very streaky or like and orange.

Alternatively, you can try making your own homemade lotion. You will find a number of easy to make recipes on the internet that use everyday household ingredients. You will find step by step instructions on how to mix, use and store your home-made lotion.

You can also download instructions and tips on how to moisturize and cleanse your skin for tanning. There is no ambiguity about the ingredients being used. You know that there are none of the potentially harmful ingredients that can occasionally be found in commercial products.

Health stores sell a range of natural and herbal products for self tanning. These natural products are beneficial if your skin is sensitive because they do not contain chemicals. They are made from herbs and plants and should not cause any adverse skin reactions.
